Archive for the ‘Baby Thom’ Category

Errol has been getting some really good news the last couple weeks, and we decided to use the rest of our gift certificate at Vincenzo’s (thanks Mom) and celebrate with a delicious lunch. The food was amazing and service great, but I was disappointed in the bathroom. No changing table! Thom usually poops at the most inconvenient times so I wasn’t surprised when I had to haul him off to the ladies’ but was surprised at the absence of a changing station. I was even more surprised when we slipped next door to use The Mill’s bathroom, and they didn’t have a changing table either! Luckily, Old Chicago saved the day. My little journey today got me thinking about where one should change their child if no table is provided. The bathroom floor? I am puzzled.

I finally posted the pictures from Mom’s birthday, and I still need to upload more ‘Thom in the snow’ shots from last week’s storm. Stay tuned.

A Rough Couple of Days

My little Thomsen is not doing so well. I’m not sure if he’s teething or just misses Errol, but he has had a rough couple of days. After supper tonight he threw up twice. It was weird to have real, stinky vomit on me instead of his milky spit-ups from the early months. I guess it’s just another sign that he’s not a little baby any more. Also, last night was possibly the worst sleeping night in Thom’s 14 months of life. The boy did not want his milk! Thom refusing Mama’s milk is just about unheard of. I am hoping not to jinx it, but I don’t think tonight can be any worse. I honestly have no clue how to calm him down when he won’t drink anything–that’s our thing!

We did have some good moments today. Aunt Sarah was in town and took Chris, Katie, Thomsen, and me out for supper. Earlier in the day, we had a lovely walk on the MOPAC trail. For some reason there were a ton of monarch butterflies today, and Thom really enjoyed watching and pointing at them. Monarch butterflies remind me of Reading Rainbow. I kept expecting LeVar Burton to jump out in front of us singing, “Butterfly in the sky, I can fly twice as high!” Luckily, this did not happen because I’m quite sure that would have frightened poor Thom into another one of today’s crying fits.

24 hours until Errol’s return.

Deanna, Thomsen, Julie

Deanna, Thomsen, Julie

It was one year ago today that Thomsen was released from the hospital. I thought I would be so happy, but I ended up crying in Julie’s arms when we left. It was scary leaving a place that I had become so emotionally attached to with a fragile 3 lb. 7 oz. baby in tow. Our primary nurses, Julie and Deanna, were so wonderful throughout Thom’s 32 days in the NICU. In the last four days, after Errol had left AZ for Lincoln to start school, I leaned on Julie and Deanna so much. I will forever be in their debt for taking such good care of Thomsen and me.

Thomsen loves to open his mouth as wide as he can and sing.

Also, little T went to the doctor for his one-year check-up this week.

He is:
19 lbs. 13.5 oz
28 1/4 inches

Our doctor’s office stopped charting his progress according to his adjusted age once he turned one. So now they are comparing his stats with those babies who were actually due in the end of July. Compared to them, he is in the 10th percentile in both height and weight, and his head circumfrence is in the 90th percentile. Let’s hear it for that big head!
